Dean’s Best Wishes to the Upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival

Dear Students, Colleagues, CCS Staff, Ladies and Gentlemen, At this time, as Chinese people all over the world are celebrating the traditional Mid-Autumn Mooncake Festival, I and all departments of the University, would like to extend our best wishes to all our Chinese students. I hope you are enjoying your time here and please accept our thanks for joining our International graduate and training programs.

If memory serves me, this festival, always celebrated in mid-autumn, is not just a time to worship the moon but a time to remember family and reunite with those closest to us while sharing memories of good times and partaking of traditional foods. It is in this tradition that the Faculty, staff and students come together as one big global family. And as a family we should all love, respect and care for one another as all family members do. And speaking of sharing I encourage you to share your knowledge, ideas and cultural traditions with all of us as we seek to make the faculty more family like.

But, dear students, while we are enjoying this time together please do not forget the social responsibilities you shoulder during these times. In a world beset by problems including climate change, ethnic conflicts and the US-China trade war it is you that must seek solutions from an academic perspective. As a student under the umbrella of the Social Sciences and Humanities you learn about the past and use that knowledge to communicate about and shape the future. That is why this beautiful lawn is named the Lawn of Social Morality and Contribution (Dharma).

So, again, let me wish you all a Happy Mooncake festival and know that we are all looking forward to a brighter future as you all contribute to society and mankind. Enjoy your time here at Mahidol and thank you all so much.
Assoc. Prof. Luechai Sringernyuang
Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanties
