The Dean’s Welcoming Speech at the First Makhapuja International Conference

Dear Lungphor, Phra Promwachirayan, President of Makhapuja Conference Organizing Committee, President of Advisory Board of Center for Chinese Studies under Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Mahidol University, venerable monks and nuns, scholars, colleagues, students, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, very good morning!

It is my great honor to be invited to here to say a few words at this great event. It is also my pleasure to see the Center for Chinese Studies under my Faculty to be one of the three co-organizers. I fully support this Center’s active engagements with the high-profile institutions within and outside Thailand for academic and social goodness in this region, even beyond. So far, I am proudly to say my whole team at the Center have been doing so well and in the right direction.

Ladies and gentlemen, as you all know, Buddhism has been playing crucial roles in both the social and spiritual lives of most Thai people since history. Buddhist values, artistic elements, and practices have been featuring the rich Thai culture of diversity, as one of its most prominent part. The Buddhist Sangha, though occasionally suffering from some internal scandals, have been long contributing to societal peace and harmony in Thailand since history to date.

Ladies and gentlemen, I profoundly believe the activities such today’s can and will Ladies and gentlemen, I profoundly believe the activities such today’s can and will make new contributions to Buddhist academy and further broaden the worldview of the Buddhist community in the region, even beyond. At this moment, please allow me, on behalf of Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, as well as Center for Chinese Studies, to warmly welcome you all of you, our distinguished guests to the first Makhapuja International Conference on the Future of Buddhism. I also wish you have fruitful participation in the Conference and pleasant stay in Thailand.
